The Opportunity

The Advanced Funeral Planner helps individuals and families make thoughtful, informed decisions about their future funeral, memorial, and cremation arrangements. Through compassionate guidance and personalized consultations, this position helps families understand their options, document their wishes, and establish prearrangements that provide peace of mind for themselves and their loved ones. 

The Advanced Funeral Planner is accountable for achieving established preneed production goals, maintaining meaningful relationships with prospective families, and supporting the continued growth of Landmark’s funeral home partners.  

Success requires a genuine commitment to serving families, strong relationship-building abilities, and confidence guiding families through important planning and financial decisions. 

What You'll Do

Family Care & Arrangements 

• Meet with individuals and families to discuss and prearrange funeral, memorial, cremation, and celebration-of-life services.
• Listen to each family’s wishes, explain service and merchandise options, and provide clear information about personalization and funding choices.
• Guide families through completing preneed arrangements and related documentation without pressure or misleading representations. 
• Provide thoughtful communication and follow-up throughout the planning process; coordinate with funeral home team members as needed. 

Preneed Planning & Relationship Development 

• Conduct scheduled planning consultations and guide interested families through completing prearranged services. 
• Maintain timely, respectful follow-up with individuals and families considering preplanning. 
• Build relationships with community organizations, clergy, healthcare providers, cemeteries, and other appropriate referral partners. 
• Participate in approved community outreach and educational activities that increase awareness of the benefits of preplanning. 
• Collaborate with funeral home leadership to support preneed growth and a consistent family experience. 

Preneed Performance & Accountability 

• Achieve established individual preneed production goals while maintaining Landmark’s standards for compassionate, ethical family service. 
• Maintain accurate and timely records of consultations, family interactions, follow-up, and completed arrangements in the designated system. 
• Monitor individual performance, including completed arrangements, appointment conversion, and overall preneed production. 
• Provide regular updates to leadership on appointment activity, prospective family follow-up, and progress toward goals.
• Participate in coaching and training to strengthen planning knowledge, family service, and performance. 

Compliance & Documentation 

• Prepare and maintain accurate preneed contracts, funding paperwork, and other required records in accordance with company procedures and applicable laws.
• Maintain required licenses for assigned activities and follow applicable federal, state, and local preneed, insurance, and consumer-protection requirements.
• Protect confidential family information and coordinate with appropriately licensed funeral or insurance professionals when required.
• Follow company standards for documentation, payments, identification, and family care. 

What We’re Looking For 

Required Qualifications 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in consultative sales, relationship development, or a comparable role involving personalized consultations and measurable performance goals.
• Ability to build trust, understand individual needs, respond thoughtfully to questions, and guide people through important purchasing decisions.
• Experience working toward established performance or production goals.
• Strong interpersonal, listening, communication, and organizational skills; ability to handle sensitive conversations with compassion and professionalism.
• Ability to independently manage appointments, family follow-up, documentation, and competing priorities.
• Ability to use a CRM or similar system to document interactions, appointments, and follow-up.
• Ability to obtain and maintain licenses required for assigned preneed sales and funding activities in applicable states. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Two or more years of successful consultative or relationship-based sales experience, including funeral services, insurance, financial services, or a comparable field.
• Demonstrated success meeting individual performance or production goals.
• Experience with preneed funeral planning, insurance-funded arrangements, community outreach, or referral development.
